How Stress Impacts Your Health

By Rachel Shouse

While stress is an inevitable evil that we all will face someday, you don't have to let it take over or continue to take over your life. We don't exactly invite problems. Some of our problems are caused by ourselves, but there are those unforeseen circumstances as well. We suffer both physically and mentally from stress. In order to reduce these problems, it's wise to educate yourself on what is really going on with your mind and body. It's also wise to learn how to reduce stress in a practical manner.

Impact of Stress on the Body

A lot of people mainly think about the link between stress and mental health. Stress can do a lot of damage. Physically, it can cause headaches, stomachaches, drowsiness, shaking, and more. These are really just the beginning symptoms.

People who live a high-stress life are more susceptible to high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and other serious conditions. By learning how to reduce and control your stress you'll avoid a lot of problems not just today, but further in your future as well.

Impact of Stress on Mental Health

Stress can cause a number of problems regarding mental health. If you suffer from stress for too long, you can end up developing an anxiety disorder, depression, an inability to focus, and more.

Most people have different areas to blame when it comes to the pressures they face. Work, home, school, relationships, children, spouses, etc., can be a lot for anyone to shoulder. If you feel like you're under a dangerous amount of stress, please seek help. Counselors can do a lot to help you through these hard times.

Tips for Stress Reduction

Believe it or not, a great way to relieve stress is by exercising. This doesn't have to be a complicated routine. Taking a 30-minute walk in the evening would do. Exercising increases feel-good chemicals in your brain. Thus, decreasing stress and anxiety.

You could also embrace the world of essential oils. Fragrances like citrus, lavender, and rose are helpful in reducing stress.

Deep breathing techniques are a great tool to have as well. One breathing technique is done by counting the seconds that you inhale and exhaling for the same amount of time. Some people like to start with inhaling and exhaling for five seconds each. They may even increase the time as they start to calm down.

You may not be able to run away from your stress, but you're tough enough to make it through. It's difficult to do that with no help or techniques. Choose new habits that you really think you can stick to. Starting a new routine can be difficult if it's unrealistic. Start small and be patient.
