A Minor Change in Diet May Mean Big Benefits

By Tom Herrin

Finding ways to improve health does not always require earth-moving changes.  Those little things may be all it takes for people to enjoy the health that they desire.  Everyone knows the basics they need even though some may buy into other programs.  A well balanced diet is usually considered a key to good maintenance.  People also know that they need good fruits and vegetables in order to help everything to keep working as it should.  For those into experimenting with some different foods, pears should be on the list of those to try.  They have their own unique contribution to make to overall good health.

They May Help Prevent Birth Defects

For some years now, there has been much more information available to those planning to have children.  Birth defects were so common that many were afraid to have children.  With a little better technology, prenatal vitamins have been able to make a real difference.  A problem for some was that they discovered too late that they were expecting and failed to have enough of the things they needed to have healthy babies.  Pears contain folic acid.  This is a critical component in preventing birth defects.  Having a pear each day may go a long way toward being certain that expectant mothers have what they need to avoid some of these problems.

They May Help Strengthen Bones

Issues with bone density have gotten a lot of attention in the last few years.  It is essential that people make sure to get the things they need to have healthy bones.  Pears can provide calcium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, and copper. These can all help to prevent mineral loss in the bones that contribute to osteoporosis.

They Are Sweet and Satisfying

Pears have a distinct flavor.  They are extremely soft.  They are easy to eat whether cooked or raw.  They can be good sliced in a bowl, cooked in a dessert, or preserved.  I like to eat them raw.  They are so soft, I can eat one in seconds when I am in a hurry.  Their high water content large amount of fiber can help you to feel full longer.  They are just sweet enough to satisfy that sweet tooth.  They are a cheap and simple food to add to your grocery list.
