Five Reasons to Take Your Child to the Chiropractor
By Rachel Carver
Many of us routinely see our chiropractor. Maybe you have chronic back pain, or you are on a monthly wellness plan. Either way, we value chiropractic care for many reasons. But this important care can also be beneficial for our children.
Similar to adults, children can also experience body disfunction that affects their ability to learn and grow. Children are fearless. They are always on the move and trying new things. Falls and running into something can misalign the spine, throwing off sleep patterns and causing ear aches.
It is important to note a pediatric adjustment looks much different than an adult adjustment. Pediatric adjustments require additional training.
- Ninety percent less force is used because young spines move more easily
- Sometimes, an instrument is used on specific spine areas, especially in infants
Here are five reasons to set your child up with regular chiropractic care.
Boost the Immune System
Especially now, all of us want to defend against fevers and coughs. Regular chiropractic care can help your child's immune system fight off sickness. This care can help with digestion, relieve constipation and alleviate reflux to decrease stomach pain. Chiropractors can shorten your child's sickness and prevent sickness from occurring.
Improve Sleep
Not only do children get cranky when they are tired, but poor sleep can interfere with emotional and physical development. Chiropractors can fix spinal misalignments to give your child quality sleep. Tight muscles caused by a misaligned spine can lead to insomnia. They can also be the reason behind bedwetting happening in older children.
Improve Behavior
Children experiencing stress act out because they have not yet learned other coping methods. Chiropractic care can drastically reduce stress, improving mood and behavior.
Increase Brain Development
Spinal misalignments can exacerbate ADD and ADHD. Chiropractic adjustments can help children focus during school, removing feelings of frustration. These adjustments relieve pressure on the bones and spine to improve neural brain development.
Help Developing Infants
It is not uncommon to hear a new mom talk about her colicky baby crying for many hours. Reflux is also common, which makes it hard for a baby to stay comfortable or sleep. Birth is a traumatic experience for all babies and can cause the fragile spine to become misaligned. Chiropractic adjustments can move the spine back into alignment, to bring some relief to babies.
