Healthy, Energizing Snacks for Your Day's Adventures
By Donna Stark
Are you planning to spend the day outside with your family but hate the thought of packing sodas and junk food for everyone's snack? And are you tired of always serving those little orange crackers shaped like fish? Well, now's not the time to fret! We've got you covered with some really great snack ideas that, in addition to traveling well, will also keep everyone energized for the planned activities ahead! Check them out below.
Frozen Grapes
You can never go wrong with fruit for a snack but, sometimes, that fruit can become soft and bruised if it sits too long under the sun. A way to prevent that is to offer your family a crisp, refreshing treat: frozen grapes! Frozen grapes will stay cold for quite a while and will give everyone the perfect bite of sweetness they are craving. Just make sure to slice them in half if you are going to serve them to small children though.
Nuts and Seeds
Speaking of a crunchy snack, don't forget your nuts and seeds. Almonds, shelled pistachios, and seeds (pumpkin and sunflower) are easy to pack and packed with nutrition. They are a great snack to bring because they won't get mushy and they definitely won't go bad in the heat. They will also keep everyone feeling full, which may help save you from dealing with grumpy and hungry children.
Anything With Nut Butter
Whether it's a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or some single-serve almond butter packets and apple slices, you can declare your snack time a win when you hand this out to your family. Nut butters are filled with protein and provide plenty of additional energy to get through the rest of your day. And since they pair with just about anything, everyone will be able to find a way to enjoy them.
Cheese Sticks
There is no snack more convenient to bring to an outdoor gathering than cheese sticks. Cheese sticks are another satisfying source of protein, but what puts them at the top of the list is that they are wrapped individually. Children love them and adults love how easy they are to hand out. Just make sure they stay cold. Pack them with your frozen grapes if you want to!
Healthy Snacks for the Best of Days
Packing healthy snacks is just as easy as grabbing those soda cans and bags of chips, so whether you are heading out for an adventure or simply hanging out at your community pool, you won't have to worry about what you are feeding your family. Just follow the suggestions above and get ready to have a day filled with energy and fun!
