Must-Do Steps to Make Your Whole Day Exceptional
By Sandy Schroeder
Many people have suggested steps to launch a perfect day with the right morning routine. WellAndGood.com agrees. They believe a smart morning start will ensure that you make healthier choices all day long.
Of course it can be a challenge to take healthy morning steps. Some mornings it is all I can do to assemble my morning coffee and be civil to my family while producing breakfast, but taking a little time for self-care might improve digestion, calm anxiety, and help the adrenals, hormones and skin.
Use these habits to set the day in motion.
Breathe Deep and Refocus
If you can barely remember who you are when the alarm goes off, three minutes of deep breathing will help to establish how you feel and what your body wants. Give yourself this space before tackling the rush of emails and texts. After checking for emergency emails, take three minutes to breathe deep and reconnect with yourself. Let all of your systems warm up and start humming.
Refuel the Body's Water
Keep your skin and all of the systems in your body up to par with sufficient water. After sleep, your body will be ready for hydration and welcome extra water if the heat is drying out your skin. To replace water lost through the body's normal functions, about 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluid is needed for men, and 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) for women, according to The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
Brew Hot Water With Lemon
Health experts say hot lemon water may improve the function of the liver, which is the body's main detox agent, and add a fresh glow to the skin. You could down the lemon drink then or sip it as you complete the morning routine.
Pour Yourself a Fiber Smoothie
Stabilize blood sugar and reduce sugar cravings with a smoothie blend of pear, apple, lemon juice, celery, banana and leafy greens. You will get about 10 grams of fiber plus vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to power through the day. Or line up fiber and nutrients with an egg frittata and a side of black beans, or a bowl of old-fashioned oats topped with your choice of blueberries, strawberries or raspberries.
Consider a Probiotic
There are many takes on probiotics, but you might check with your doctor to see what is recommended and what fits with your health profile.
