Common Slip and Fall Injuries

By Sara Butler

Even the most coordinated of people suffer from injuries. You would be hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t slipped or fallen down by accident in their lives – they don’t exist. The problem is that many people don’t realize how much damage they can do with a simple slip or a little fall. Slipping and falling down are responsible for a host of injuries every year in the United States. Here’s how a slip or fall can injure you and how your chiropractor can help.

How They Happen

Slips and falls just kind of happen -- to anyone at any time. You could be changing a lightbulb, or walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night and bam! You slip or fall (or both!) and end up with an ache you know isn’t good. When this happens, your priority should be to see a chiropractor at The Joint as soon as possible, so you can be assessed and treated.

Common Injuries

When it comes to slipping and falling, some interesting injuries can occur, such as:

  • Neck and back injuries – When you slip and fall it can cause a host of issues for your neck and back such as a fracture, a slipped disc or other injuries that if left untreated can cause chronic and severe pain that can make you miss work.
  • Head injury – One of the most common injuries caused by a slip or fall, a traumatic brain injury is very serious. If your head hits the floor or another object, you need to get help right away. These kinds of injuries can lead to severe consequences for your overall health and wellness.
  • Broken hips – This is an injury most people associate with older people, but falling can break anyone’s hip. This is a devastating injury for anyone and can lead to surgery and a long recovery. This is especially true for the elderly, so every precaution should be taken to try to prevent falls.

Chiropractic care can be a great way to address injuries you may have sustained from a fall. The chiropractors at The Joint will do an evaluation of your symptoms and create a plan to get you back up and at ‘em again.
