Getting Rid of Bad Habits for Improved Health

By Donna Stark

Sometimes, we don't take notice of our bad habits until after the consequences from them show up in our lives. For example, we don't start eating healthily until after weight gain, we don't go to bed on time until after we oversleep and miss a scheduled appointment, and we don't stop our online shopping addiction until after we get the credit card bill in the mail. Fortunately, these mistakes, and others, are easy to fix. Take a look at the following suggestions on how to change some of the most common and unhealthy habits that many of us fall victim to.

Social Media

If you recognize that you are wasting too much of your life on social media, there are several things you can do to get your time back. You can delete apps, set time limits, and turn your phone off when with others.

Finances

Do you love purchasing big-ticket items? Or do you find yourself nickel-and-diming your way through life? It doesn't matter how you are spending your money because if it's out of control, you're spending it the wrong way. To keep that from happening, unsubscribe from email lists, cancel those subscriptions to accounts you rarely use, and find someone to stay accountable to.

Exercise

Why are you pushing your health to the side? Can't find the time? Don't know where to start? Lack of motivation? You may have plenty of excuses to fall back on, but remember, you only have one body and it's time to start taking care of it. Wake up a little bit earlier in the morning and go for a walk, ask a friend to join you during workouts so you are more likely to stick to them, or hire a personal trainer. If you are spending your hard-earned money on your health and wellness, you may end up being more motivated to follow through.

Diet

Those extra pounds sure did creep onto your body pretty fast, didn't they? So, what are you going to do now? You may want to start in your pantry by getting rid of all the processed foods. Yes, that means those bags of chips, cartons of cookies, packaged meals, and boxes of sugary cereals. Try to eat more fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains instead. And remember, the more accessible healthy foods are in your home, the more likely you will choose them.

Getting Rid of Bad Habits

Improving your overall health and wellness isn't an impossible task. By making it easier for yourself (and everyone else in the family) to make smarter choices, it won't take long to develop better lifestyle habits. And there is no better gift you can give to yourself or your loved ones than that!
