Chiropractic Could Be a Great Alternative to Surgery
When surgery is seen to be the recommended course of action for lower back pain, you certainly want to be aware of what you may be in for. Surgery on the spine often provides limited benefit and possibly no benefit at all. There are several different types of back surgery that are commonly performed today. These can include spinal fusion, laminectomy, foraminotomy, a discectomy, and disk replacement. While each one may help, they do not always work, and sometimes, the surgery has to be repeated.
Besides the inconvenience of being put on bed rest for a while, there are also other complications that may occur during or after the surgery. There is a risk of a reaction to the anesthesia, infection, blood clots, stroke, nerve damage, bleeding, and more. If nerve damage occurs, it could result in paralysis, pain, weakness, loss of bowel of bladder control, and sexual dysfunction.
Although surgery may be the solution, depending on the nature of the problem, it would make a lot of sense to see a chiropractor before getting surgical treatment that might not work. The primary reason would be that a non-surgical approach may solve the problem, and, if so, it may enable you to get on your feet much faster.
A chiropractor would first take an x-ray to be able to determine the problem and decide whether or not chiropractic care could help. Since a lot of back pain is caused by a misalignment of the vertebrae in the spine, a realignment or adjustment may solve the problem. It certainly would be worth the visit, and you may be able to get fast pain relief.
A chiropractor is a professional who is well-trained to recognize and treat back pain problems. Most people go to see a chiropractor for back pain, and find the relief they need to not only relieve their back pain, but also for other problems and for better health.
