Rain or Shine, Still Drink More Water for Health

By Tom Herrin

In this area, there are certainly times when it seems that we see all of the water we need.  Feast or famine is kind of the trend.  It is important to remember that drinking water is quite a bit different from enduring all of that rain.  Many people fail to drink as they should.  Some if this may be due to the fact that there are so many other beverages available.  As a result, many prefer some of the more flavored drinks as opposed to the simple things such as water.  Those others may be fine, but everyone should still have some water on their list.

Water Is Important for Physical Performance

Everyone likely knows that they need water anytime they are out working and perspiring.  What they may not realize is that it plays a much bigger role than just perspiration.  It has been found that as little as a 2 percent loss of the body's water may produce symptoms that people will notice.  Many athletes may lose as much as 10 percent in workouts in a day.  This can result in a change in body temperature, possible mental confusion, and fatigue.  It is critical to have constant replacement of these fluids in order to maintain good health and peak performance.

It May Help Prevent Kidney Stones

One of the most painful experiences people can have is kidney stones.  When problems flare up, it can be debilitating.  When people drink plenty of water, they may be able to flush out these materials that could form stones before they have a chance to form.  Even for those who may have small stones, large amounts of water may be able to help eliminate these from the system.  Drinking much more water may be the best way to assure that these painful issues don't become a problem.

It May Help to Manage Weight

While water may not be the only thing you have to do to maintain a healthy weight, it can help.  When you drink extra water before meals, it may help you to feel fuller.  This can also help you to eat less or be topped off with less food.  I like water anyway, but I always try to increase my intake whenever I am trying to adjust my diet.  Not only does it help to make me eat less, it also seems to help me to digest my food more easily.  In my case, this food seems to go through me with less digestive trouble.
