Walking or Running, Either Works Well Indoors

By Tom Herrin

Even though many people may feel that they need to get outdoors in order to get the exercise they need, it really isn't the case.  There can be some pretty good results for those who spend their time indoors doing whatever kind of exercise they choose.  Some of the most natural kinds are running or walking.  Unless they have some kind of disability, most people are able to walk or run.  To get the most out of their efforts, using a treadmill can be a good way to maximize time and fulfill their goals.  Treadmills seem to be increasing in popularity for good reason.

Using a Treadmill Is Simple

Treadmills of today come with all kinds of options.  They may be used to get basic exercise as dictated by the person doing the walking or running.  On the other hand, they may be programmed to take advantage of all sorts of features.  Some of these are speed of movement, time, level of difficulty, and so forth.  Many also come with some way of measuring things such as pulse or even blood pressure.  They are also equipped with safety features that will turn the machine off if there is a problem.  This can help prevent injury.

Treadmills May Mean Less Impact

One of the common issues that many people experience when they run or walk outdoors is injuries due to impact.  The pounding movement can wear down joints and other parts.  Most treadmills today have some cushion on the track.  This can make the session much less physically stressful which, in turn, serves to provide more motivation.  Any time people can avoid having undue pain and soreness as they exercise, they are more likely to do it more often.

Treadmills Are a Great Backup

For me, treadmills never seemed like something I had any interest in.  They appeared to be too limited.  I enjoyed getting outdoors and feeling the fresh air.  It was always good until there was excessive heat or cold.  Rainy days were a total bust.  Once I began using a treadmill, I realized it was not so bad.  As a matter of fact, I began to realize that I could get a pretty decent amount of exercise in a short period of time.  This still left me time to do some of the other things I needed to do.  It works better than I had imagined.
