Staying Home a Little Can Still Be Good for Health
By Tom Herrin
Everyone in this part of Texas has pretty much been under stay-at-home orders in recent times. Sure Collin County has had its ups and downs over it, but most have had some experience of locking down. It has been trying but necessary. Even now, no one actually knows the extent of the reach and breadth of the virus. As they stay home, it may be a good opportunity to promote better relations as well as better health. It is one of those things that could be a disaster or an unexpected bonus. With some higher expectations, it can be made to be successful.
Improve Conversation
A lot of people lack the ability to talk freely with family members. With all of the electronic devices available today, many people have failed to develop good skills in this area. Taking advantage of this opportunity can help to create more fluid conversation. A few ideas are simple. Playing games, making crafts or artwork, or having a little friendly competition with baking can all be fun. The verbal exchange will all come naturally after that. It may be surprising what can be learned about others with ordinary exchange of information.
Physical Activity Is Always Important
Whether people are going about their everyday routines or somewhat stuck in what they may see as confinement, everyone needs exercise. If it is not possible to go out and be involved in some kind of group, why not make one at home? It can be really simple. It doesn't require any kind of standard exercises. People may be creative and do something entirely different. Anything from organized outdoor games to hide-and-seek can get people moving and gain benefits from it. Even things such as gardening can provide some good exercise.
Make the Time Quality
Most of us don't spend as much time as we should with family and others who are close to us. We are often so busy that the time simply doesn't seem to be there, or we find that we need to schedule it. With many of us spending a little more time at home, we no longer have that excuse. In our home, spending time together at meals has always been productive. We especially enjoy sitting around the table in the evening after we finish. It is a great time to listen and share.
