6 Habits That Are Getting In The Way Of Your Diet

It’s great if you’ve finally decided to commit to eating better and living a healthier lifestyle in general. With a new way of living and eating, comes a list of new habits to start sticking to, and it’s just as important to get rid of some old habits that were quite literally weighing you down. Here are five common habits that may seem like good ideas, but are actually contributing to weight gain and an unhealthy lifestyle.

Having Too Much Alcohol

As long as you’re being safe and responsible, there’s certainly no need to abstain from alcohol altogether. However, after your first drink, your inhibitions are lowered while your appetite increases. This means you’ll be much more likely to binge eat after a night of drinking than you normally would. Remember to keep everything in moderation to avoid this negative outcome.

Snacking On Diet Foods

This one is pretty tricky, because it seems to make perfect sense that foods and snacks that are specially made for dieters are the best things to be eating. Unfortunately, many “diet” foods and drinks are actually loaded with sugar and artificial ingredients, which are the last things you want to be putting into your body. Snack on real, whole foods instead, like almonds or blueberries.

Skipping Breakfast

It’s called the most important meal of the day for a reason. You may think that since you’re so rushed in the morning, you’ll be ok to skip breakfast if you make up the meal at lunch. This is problematic thinking, because you will actually end up overeating out of hunger if you skip your morning meal. Fill up on fiber-rich foods like oatmeal or whole wheat toast, so you’ll feel fuller longer.

Emotional Eating

Sometimes we eat when we’re feeling overly stressed or sad. Sometimes, to celebrate an achievement, we reward ourselves with excess food. Interestingly, many people also eat when they’re bored, since eating is simply something to do. Eating during any highly emotional state like this will just serve to pack on the pounds. Try exercising, listening to music, or writing in a diary instead.

Counting Calories Or Banning All Fat

Your body needs some calories and some good fat, such as the kind found in extra virgin olive oil and avocados, to function to the best of its ability. Don’t cut out all calories or all fat to lose weight, because it’s a strategy that will ultimately backfire.

Not Utilizing Chiropractic Care

Regular chiropractic care helps to keep the body in all aspects, in optimal health. Fixing any subluxations and adjusting the spine means that the immune system and the overall health of you as an individual is increased tenfold. Not choosing to use chiropractic care for your health needs is one way you're overlooking your own health and well-being.
