Boost Your Health With a Camping Trip
By Tom Herrin
Most people spend a majority of their time indoors. It is often the nature of their work. In this age of technology, many people are pretty much tied to whatever type of device they use to perform their jobs. Being almost confined to the indoors can have some drawbacks. Many times, when people exercise, they even do that indoors. When they decide to look for something to do to improve health, they may be able to do no better than go camping. It can be a great break from the old routine and offer some good opportunities to get a little healthier in the process.
It May Be a Chance to Get Some Fresh Air
When people spend the majority of their time indoors, they are limited to breathing whatever quality of air is available. The EPA has estimated that Americans spend close to 90 percent of their time indoors where the concentrations of some pollutants is thought to be two to five times higher indoors. Camping may be the way to supply the fresh air that many need. Who wouldn't like to spend some time breathing better air? It may be a pleasant surprise.
It May Deter the Blues
Once the days grow shorter and the temps begin to cool, many people get into a low that can last until it all turns around again. This could be months. While they may not be able to turn back the seasons, they can do a few things. This condition is called seasonal affective disorder, or SAD, and is more common than one might believe. A few simple things may be able to change it. Camping is a good start. Other things may be added to this outdoor experience. It can create a sense of adventure and enthusiasm and change perspective.
It May Open Our Eyes
When we spend time outdoors, there are lots of benefits. It was once believed that exposure to the sun caused an increase in myopia cases. It is now thought that this increase was caused by electronic screens. According to a Canadian study, people who spend more time with sun exposure actually have lower instances of myopia. Add this to the fact that camping can be fun, and it may be a winner. It can be fun for the entire family and may help improve relationships all around. It is easy and inexpensive. If you are looking for lakes, Lake Bardwell or Cedar Hill State Park are not that far.
