Chiropractic Advice for Chronic Standers

By Brandi Goodman

Some jobs require you to stand all day. Cashiers, store greeters, and factory workers tend to fall under this category. Standing for hours on end can leave you feeling incredibly sore and fatigued by the end of your shift. With some chiropractic tips in mind, chronic standers can get some relief

Stretch When You Can

Don't simply stand straight in place for hours and never move. It will wear your joints down quickly. You need to stretch when you can and get some blood flowing once again. Even something as simple as raising up onto your toes and back down again can help. Use your breaks and lunchtime to perform a full stretch and take a few minutes to sit and rest your body afterward.

Wear Appropriate Shoes

The right shoes can go a long way when you have to stand. Your feet will ache quickly with both flats and heels. Wear athletic shoes with good traction and arch support, and you're more likely to be OK standing for long intervals.

Stay on Top of Exercise

Keeping your body strong helps tremendously when you're standing at work. It will lead to less pain and keep your joints as flexible and able as possible. Stay on top of your exercise and make sure you're fitting in at least 30 minutes per day. Break it up into 10-minute increments if needed to make it work. Job in place while you watch a show. Use your furniture for tricep dips. Walk or bike to and from work.

See the Chiropractor

One of the best things you can do to help yourself is to seek help from the chiropractor. Get regular chiropractic care so you can ensure your joints are in the best shape possible so your standing duties won't get to you as much. Any subluxations or joint restrictions should get corrected promptly so they don't hinder your health or posture. Plus, you can ask for additional advice while you're there. They may have recommendations for certain exercises to try to keep your legs and lower back in the best shape possible.

Keep this chiropractic advice in mind and pair it with routine chiropractic care. It will help you make the most of your standing job and keep you healthy in the process. You don't want to end every day in severe pain. Work toward finding a better way and improve your well-being.
