If You Want to Live Longer, It May Be Possible

By Tom Herrin

The desire to live longer is not novel.  People have yearned for some way to do so for years.  Many have truly searched for the proverbial fountain of youth.  While it was never found, in more recent times, it has been found that it may truly be possible for an individual to do things that may provide them the possibility of living a longer life.  It is not anything magical or beyond  reason, but there are things they may be able to do that can help them to achieve their goal.  It is a matter of becoming educated and making a plan of action that they actually follow.

Always Move Around

Too many times, people aspire to reach a point in which they take it easy.  While there is nothing wrong with slowing down, stopping completely is another thing.  If we want to protect our health, moving on a regular basis is extremely important.  Physical activity can help to preserve our joints and our muscles.  It can also help us maintain good blood pressure and circulation.  Walking is always a good practice and relatively simple.  More aggressive exercise may be had from any of the available programs around.  If we participate in some lifetime sport, we may find it easier to become motivated.

Sleep on a Good Schedule

It is easy to try to skimp on sleep in order to squeeze in more things.  Sleep is a way our body uses to repair and rejuvenate itself.  We are also able to fight off diseases with rest.  For those of us who have difficulty sleeping, there are a few things we can do.  We need to establish a set schedule.  Avoiding heavy meals and exercise shortly before trying to go to sleep.  It may be helpful to keep electronic screens away from sleeping areas as well.  It has been found that sleeping in cooler temperatures can help the sleep cycle work better.

Be a Volunteer

No matter where you live, there is a need for volunteers.  When we volunteer we gain an intangible that can hardly be found elsewhere.  It can give us a great feeling.  Giving service to others can help them and us.  Many older individuals serve their community as volunteers and live long productive lives.  There is certainly some real value to our health by doing this.  It may not only relieve stress but also provide a feeling of joy.  It is a good addition to any effort to live longer.
