Boost Your Metabolism without Breaking a Sweat

As we head toward spring, boosting metabolism always seems to be a good idea. When you don’t have time to walk, jog or work out at the gym, these healthy food choices will help you boost your metabolism, as you enjoy your favorites.

Snack on Almonds – Their fatty acids raise metabolism, but they are high in calories, so keep the portions small.

Multiply Bean Choices – Black, kidney, lima, green or white beans all deliver fiber and protein to power metabolism. Use them in soups, side dishes and tacos.

Fix Bone Broth – Enjoy healthy chicken-based bone broth as you boost your metabolism. It’s great for fighting colds and flu, too.

Add Celery – Chop it into salads or soups or serve it as a snack with peanut butter.

Savor Some Chocolate – Dark chocolate is considered the healthiest, but all of the chocolates are metabolism boosters.

Add the Kick of Chili Pepper -  Chop your favorite chiles into omelets, salads, tacos or soup.  Chiles are full of capsaicin, a chemical compound that boosts metabolism and provides Vitamin C.

Enjoy Your Coffee – Each time you have a cup of your favorite brew you will be getting a metabolic boost of 16 percent over decaf drinkers.

Pour the Milk – Put it over your cereal or whip it into a smoothie to get the metabolic boost of calcium. Researchers have found it helps the body burn fat better.

Choose Lean Meats – When the body is deficient in iron, metabolism slows down. Lean meats are full of iron and good protein sources.

Chill Water – The body slows down when it’s dehydrated. Drink chilled water, which makes the body use more calories to warm it up.

Opt for Egg Whites – According to nutritionists, the amino acids in egg whites will help to power your metabolism. They also deliver Vitamin D and a big helping of protein. Enjoy egg white omelettes, veggie frittatas or potato and egg burritos.

Add Lentils – Mix them into soups and casseroles and get an iron boost to power your metabolism.

Rotate your choices and try to include some at each meal. Your body will thank you for it.
