Staying Active During Your COVID Lockdown
By Janin Hendry
Working from home comes with many problems, from communicating with clients to ensuring you stop working when the end of the day comes. Staying away from the gym, pool, or dance studio can restrict your workout to your own home. There are many things you can do to keep yourself physically active without putting yourself at risk during the COVID-19 pandemic.
How Can You Stay Active?
There are multiple ways to stay active through your activities. You can make each one specific for your home region to stay safe and moving.
YouTube videos - There are many people online who are intent on spreading their love for physical activity. Not every video is good, so it might take you some searching to find the right content for your workout routine, but you can find all types of content to follow along. The videos are anywhere from short HITT videos to long yoga routines.
Build a home gym - If you love to go to the gym and have an extra room to spare, it is not hard to start furnishing a home gym with basic tools for an at-home workout gym. You do not have to go out and buy a treadmill, but you can roll out your yoga mat, jump rope, or basic weight set. Craigslist is a good online place to check for people looking to get rid of equipment. You can also purchase them through online retailers for new or used.
Road jogging - Jogging on the road is not the easiest way to move, but it can give you the movement you need to feel good. To avoid people, you can go out early in the morning when many people are not on the roads. Jogging on the road comes with its own set of challenges but can be a good way to stay active without risk of infection.
Walk - Walking is a very basic way to stay active. Like jogging, you can go out early to avoid people or create your route around your home with music playing. You can do this with your family and make a game out of it.
Bicycle ride - Riding a bike is a very basic way to get your body moving. You can even wear a face mask to keep exhaust and other health risks from entering your lungs. A bicycle provides you with freedom and a full-body workout to keep yourself balanced and moving.
