Healthy Ways to Prepare Vegetables & Receive Their True Tasty Benefits
Everyone knows that vegetables are good for you. From the time that we are children, we are taught to eat our vegetables. Veggies are generally nutrient dense, low calorie, and just overall an excellent addition to our regular menus.
Even though we know that they are super healthy, we sometimes have a hard time eating them. It seems as though we get in a vegetable rut. We eat the same veggies in the same manner, and it just gets downright boring. If you want to be healthy and eat your vegetables, but can’t seem to stomach the thought, check out these healthy ways to make vegetables tasty and delicious.
Grill Them
If you have a grill, take advantage of it! Covering vegetables in olive oil or a healthy butter source and throwing it on the grill is a quick and easy way to make vegetables crispy and delicious. Some great vegetables for the grill include asparagus, cabbage, onion, bell pepper, and many, many others. Don’t be afraid to experiment. You might find something that you really enjoy by accident.
Go Organic
Buying organic, or even better locally grown vegetables just seems to make them taste better. Stopping by the farmer’s market means fresh veggies without any extra pesticides or genetically modified organisms. And of course, the farmer’s market can be a lot of fun. It makes the entire vegetable experience more enjoyable and subsequently more delicious.
Add Some Spice
Sprinkling a little spice on your vegetables can change the taste immensely. If you are in need of satisfying a sweet tooth, add cinnamon. If you are in the mood for something spicier add cayenne, black pepper, garlic powder, or chili powder. For a milder but still tasty option, sprinkle in sea salt and bake for a few minutes. Just this one change can mean making multiple different side dishes from a single vegetable.
Play With Preparation
If you are used to eating raw or canned vegetables, no wonder you are bored! There are a lot of different ways to cook vegetables, so don’t be afraid to try them all. Try baking, steaming, or grilling the vegetables. Try chopping them up and sauteing them. Throw different combinations together to change the flavor. Don’t be afraid to try new things. Changing the way that you prepare the vegetable can change the whole flavor.
Vegetables don’t have to be boring. With a little preparation, some careful planning, and a creative spirit, you can find some healthy and delicious ways to keep your vegetables interesting. Use these tips or try your own so that you can enjoy vegetables now and long into the future.
