Games You Played When You Were Young Are Still Good
By Tom Herrin
Most people played a lot of games when they were younger. It may not be so much because they liked it as much as because, when they were younger, they were willing to try anything that was made available to them. As they got older, many people have tended to forget some of those simpler activities they played. Now it may be that those same individuals find themselves searching for something that can provide health benefits as they age. One of those often overlooked games is table tennis. The fact is that it can serve many useful purposes.
It Can Improve the Brain And Nervous System
There are plenty of opportunities in table tennis for people to improve health. Hand-eye coordination is a natural. Anyone who has played the game is aware of the speed of the ball. In addition the angles make the development of better anticipation a necessity. People must develop strategy of their own to improve their play. Developing better balance is another good outcome of continued play and practice.
It Can Be Low Stress
When an activity does not require pounding of the body on a hard surface, it can save wear on the joints. This is another benefit of table tennis because it still requires movement. It has enough activity to burn calories. Stimulation of reflexes can carry over into other areas of life since they are so important to good health. Good reflexes are essential in preventing accidents as well as dealing with many of the things people encounter on a daily basis. This can be particularly useful for older people.
It Can Be Good Socially
Whether people may be looking for something to do with friends or family, table tennis can fit in with almost any situation. Small children can play, even if rules have to be modified. Friends can play and large group activities, such as tournaments, can be held successfully and easily. The fact that the equipment is so affordable is another plus. If you are looking for a way to sharpen some skills and interact with others, take another look at table tennis. It could provide some good quality family entertainment while sharpening the mind. Too many times there are not enough games that families can play together, and there are no electronics involved.
