There Is No Reason to Run Ourselves Ragged

By Tom Herrin

It is pretty frequent that people go and go until they find themselves unable to go any more.  With the extremely busy schedules that many keep, it doesn't take much until they have simply overflowed with activities.  Without a pretty tightly controlled schedule, things can go haywire and people can find themselves overwhelmed and badly out of shape.  This does not have to be the case as some good advance planning may turn that train wreck into something that may be far more productive.  The key is to keep exercising in that schedule to the extent that it can support better health.  A good program can be well worth the effort while keeping it brief may be good for all involved.

Runners Don't Have to Quit

People who enjoy running can keep up the good work but cut their time down a little.  Those long sessions may seem enjoyable, but much shorter ones can do a pretty good job while saving time for other things.  Some studies have indicated that people may be able to cut their running considerably and still gain benefits.  It has indicated that people may run seven minutes per day and reduce their risk of death from heart disease by as much as 45 percent.  Even though they may have cut their run, they may still reap some really good things for their health.

Happy May Be Healthy

Most people who experience good health appear generally happy.  On the other hand, everyone has seen those who seem almost miserable while having poor health.  There may be something to remaining upbeat and feeling good about oneself.  A Japanese study found that people who rode a stationary bike for 10 minutes per day were happier and performed well on tests in which good reaction time was needed.  This moderate activity on a regular basis may be all it takes.

Be in Charge of Your Health Plan

As you evaluate your needs, it is best to consider all of your options.  You do not have to go all out in an exercise program but simply be consistent.  Plan something you can handle and that may be able to accommodate as many of your scheduled activities as possible.  Take control of your own health and make it count the way you want.  Your body will thank you in the long run as you age gracefully.
