Feeling Really Stressed? Your Chiropractor Has Some Easy Tips
Stress is everywhere, and sometimes it motivates us to do our best. But when it wears us down or completely wears us out, we need some good solutions that really work.
The American Chiropractic Association has identified these key stress reducers.
Switch to your positive side.
When stress loads us up it is easy to become negative, but positive thoughts really can ease the mental load, reducing chronic stress and depression.
Head outside and relax.
Studies show that interacting with nature can lessen the effects of stress on the nervous system, reduce attention deficits, decrease aggression, enhance spiritual well-being, and increase our happiness.
Unwind with the scents of orange or lavender.
Aromatherapy, smelling the essential oils of plants, is used around the world for chronic pain, depression, anxiety, insomnia, and stress-related disorders. The scents of orange and lavender are particularly good for anxiety and sadness.
Pour a soothing cup of tea.
Tea has about one-third of coffee’s caffeine. It helps lower stress and increases our ability to relax. It may also reduce inflammation in the body, improving heart health.
Use laughter to lighten the load.
Humor helps us put our troubles into perspective, putting people at ease, increasing pain tolerance and boosting the immune system.
Gather support from friends and family.
Relationships are key to health and happiness. Researchers say women with low social support are more likely to suffer from increased diastolic blood pressure under acute stress. Loneliness may also elevate stress in men and women.
Count on music to change the mood.
Music can serve as a powerful stress-relief tool, relieving pain and reducing anxiety. Surgeons sometimes use music to release anxiety before stressful medical procedures, and a dose of calming music during recovery can help decrease pain.
Discover how meditation eases anxiety.
Focusing on breath, looking at a candle, or practicing a non-judgmental awareness of our thoughts and actions can help reduce anxiety and depression. In cancer patients, meditation-based stress reduction enhances quality of life, lowers stress symptoms, and potentially benefits the immune system.
Use exercise to up the mood.
In one study, a group of lung cancer patients increased their level of hope due to exercise. Exercise can also reduce symptoms of depression and improve wound healing in the elderly. Tai chi exercises may enhance heart and lung function, improve balance and posture, prevent falls, and reduce stress.

Seeing Your Chiropractor
Chiropractors believe wellness and routine chiropractic care should be as basic for us as healthy diets and daily exercise.
They offer the purest form of chiropractic care, providing full spinal adjustments using the diversified technique to check for subluxations, which are misalignments of the spine.
Subluxations are misalignments of one or more vertebrae in the spine and/or joints. When the misalignment is corrected it may have far reaching effects on back, neck and sciatica pain. It may also help with allergies, TMJ, arthritis, headaches and migraines.
