Stop Putting it Off and Start Exercising Now
By Donna Kostiew
For some people, there never seems to be a good time to start working out, and there always seems to be a better time than today. Maybe the summer was too hot, maybe once school started for the kiddos life got too busy, maybe it will be better to start exercising after the holidays and a new year begins. Geez, that’s a lot of maybes, but I have a better one for you.
Maybe your life and health will be positively impacted if you start today. Yep, that’s right, today.
Don’t worry about not having a fitness plan written down or a membership to the gym yet, just do something. Just start.
Reasons That Will Encourage You to Start Exercising Now
There are so many immediate benefits that your body and mind will receive once you commit to working out and taking care of yourself.
Improved immunity – Exercise has been shown to boost your immune system by strengthening and increasing the production of the cells that attack bacteria. Also, the cells that promote immunity are able to circulate through the body more rapidly, killing both viruses and bacteria. Although this boost is temporary and only lasts for a few hours after working out, it is still enough to make a dramatic impact on your health than if you didn’t exercise at all.
Better sleep – If you are having trouble getting a good night’s rest, exercise may be able to help. Physical activity improves the quality of your sleep by helping to keep you alert and awake during the day, by reducing your stress, and by keeping your energy levels up so that you are tired by day’s end. Exercising may also reduce the risk of developing sleep disorders such as sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome.
Improved mood – Have you ever noticed all the smiles on the people who exercise? Regular exercise can have a positive effect on depression, anxiety, stress, and memory, which ultimately impacts your mood for the better.
Better health for the future – Imagine what your health may look like 10 to 20 years down the road. Do you see yourself out and about, being physically active and enjoying life to its fullest? Or do you see yourself on the couch dealing with back pain and sore joints every day? Our bodies are designed to be in motion and age much quicker if they are not. The choice is up to you, but you have to realize that the process to good health takes time, even years, and doesn’t just happen overnight.
These are some great reasons to stop making excuses and to start exercising weekly. It doesn’t even take much, 20-30 minutes every other day is a fantastic start. And now that you have some motivating factors, maybe you can stop saying “maybe one day … ” and replace it with “today I will … .”
