Get Outdoors for Your Best Summer Health
By Brandi Goodman
Great Outdoors Month in June encourages everyone to get outside as often as they can. You'll experience your best summer health yet when you're regularly spending time outside. The easy exercise options and dose of Vitamin D are great for your well-being.
Easy Exercise Options
If you're looking to improve your physical fitness, there's no better time than summer to start. You have so many exercise options when you're outside during the summer months and into the fall season. Ride your bike. Take a walk. Go swimming. Play at the park with your kids. Go for a hike. Fly a kite. Play catch in the yard. You can always find something you enjoy for easy exercise that doesn't even feel like a workout in the slightest. You'll be burning calories and getting fit while having fun.
Boost in Vitamin D
Vitamin D is essential for your immune system, bone growth, and so much more. You get a good dose of Vitamin D from the sun alone. This means spending time outside can be great for enhancing your health. You don't want to be exposed to the sun for too long, though, as the UV rays can have cancerous effects. Wear your sunscreen and find shade during the hottest part of the day, but otherwise enjoy your time outdoors.
Helping Your Mental Health
The boost in Vitamin D can also be good for brain health and beating symptoms of depression. Being outside in general can help as well. If you're experiencing poor mental health, a walk around the block may do you some good. Enjoy some time at the beach watching the waves crash against the shore. Sit on a bench at a local park and watch the birds soar above. It can help you clear your mind and see the beauty of nature around you that makes living here worthwhile.
Bettering Your Brain Function
Being outside can actually boost your brain function. You'll experience improved mental clarity, enhanced concentration, and a boost in creativity. Get outside if you're lacking in these areas and discover just how much your brain function can be bettered when you're spending time outdoors.
Get outside whenever you can, whether it's a hot summer day or a cool fall afternoon. Being outdoors is good for both physical and mental health and helps you stay sane and healthy.
