Create Healthy Routines
By Rachel Shouse
The benefits of creating healthy routines are immense. It not only benefits your physical health, but your mental health as well. Routines may seem like chores or work. Instead of seeing it as a bad thing, think about how productive you could be if you didn't have piles of extra tasks to do. Healthy eating, getting exercise, and taking proper care of yourself should all be parts of your routines.
Make Healthy Eating Part of Your Routine
You've probably heard about the importance of healthy eating more times than you'd like to count. It's repeated so much because it really is that important. If you put a bunch of junk food in you, you're not going to function as well. All those sweets and treats contain a lot of sugar and while sugar may give you a temporary energy boost, all you get in the end is a major crash.
Instead of continuing to eat foods that you know aren't doing your body any good, make the decision to change that. Exchange a treat or two per week for a healthier choice. Try to find things that are similar in texture and taste. There's not a fruit that tastes like ice cream, but you could freeze yogurt or mash up some bananas and freeze those. There are so many healthy alternatives to junk food.
Getting Regular Exercise
Regular exercise is great for both your physical and mental health. Increasing your heart rate for an hour per day reduces your risk of heart disease, reduces the symptoms of depression and anxiety, and can help you either lose weight or maintain it. Working out doesn't have to involve thousands of dollars worth of workout equipment. Figure out what kind of exercise you would enjoy the most and see what's best for that.
Take Proper Care of Yourself
Everyone has a lot to get done in a day. While it's OK to miss something here and there, it really can build up and become a huge stressor. This is going to happen no matter how hard you try or what you do. Because of that, take the time you need for you. Do something you enjoy, get some rest, call a friend. Anything that builds you up and gets you ready for life.
Life is busy, anyone can understand that. Chaos aside, it's really important that you take the time to take care of yourself. Eat well, get moving, and do whatever it is that you need to do. Life happens, all of the time. While you can't prepare for everything, taking care of yourself sure won't be something you'd have to worry about.
