Approach Life Like a Workout

By Sara Butler

In the gym, you probably go into beast mode! You attack your workout and take no prisoners. What would happen if you began approaching the rest of your life like that? You may find that success comes to you more easily. You probably aren’t an Olympic distance runner or the queen of Zumba, but you do push yourself and keep moving forward. Here’s how you can begin living your life that way, too!

Break Up Your Day

Sometimes workouts are more palatable if you break them up into smaller pieces instead of doing things all at once. It can get overwhelming if you don’t, which is why workouts such as high-intensity interval training (aka, HIIT) are so popular.

You can easily break your daily tasks up to approach them from a better place mentally. Think about it this way: You’ve been dreading something such as working on a spreadsheet. Instead of sitting down and doing the whole thing in one go, break it up into 30-minute increments by setting a timer. When the timer goes off, give yourself a few minutes off and then go right back in! You may have to work in order to find a timing combination that works for you but you may be surprised how breaking something up into smaller increments helps.

Consistency is Key

You can’t make changes to your body without commitment and consistency – those arms don’t tone themselves! You see results when you watch what you eat and train every day. Over time, you get the results you want.

This practice can easily be applied to the rest of your life. To get a promotion at work, you have to show up every day and give it your best. And goals won’t be met over night but if you commit to hard work then you should have no problem.

Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

You won’t meet your fitness goals if you don’t push yourself. Workouts aren’t meant to be comfortable – sore muscles and sweat are a part of the plan. You get out of your comfort zone and push yourself meeting challenges.

In your life, you are going to be uncomfortable, whether it is in business or in your personal life. But you have to look at the discomfort as something that is propelling your forward and allowing you to grow!

If you can just attack everyday life like you do your gym life, you'll be set up for success!
