3 Tips to Maintain Good Mental Health

By Virginia Laird

The struggle to keep your body and mind healthy is getting increasingly difficult. While it is not impossible to maintain good health, both mentally and physically, it can take effort and hard work. Health and wellness experts have made a few suggestions of what you can do to help maintain good mental health, including:

  • Take a break from social media
  • Give yoga a try
  • Make sleep a priority

Take a Break From Social Media

While the idea behind social media is a great concept, the way people actually choose to use it is quite another story. All too often it is used to taunt, make fun of, and belittle others. This is the type of social media which can play tricks on the mind. When this begins to happen, good mental health is at stake. For this reason, social media limits and breaks from it can be great. Eliminating this stress and judgement from others can help promote good overall health. If you are looking to make a change in your mental health, delete the app and take a break from your social media, it just might be a great change for you. It will certainly create more time in your day.

Give Yoga a Try

Yoga can be a good promoter of mental wellness. Yoga is not a strenuous activity. Instead, it uses meditation techniques to help clear the mind. This can allow you to throw out all the stress and mental clutter of the day. Research suggests that meditation is beneficial to overall mental health. Check your local gym for class times and drop by a yoga class right away.

Make Sleep a Priority

Sleep (or a lack of it) can play a huge role in mental health. Research suggests that where there is a lack of sleep, there can be an increased level of stress and other mental health struggles. For this reason, experts insist that you begin making sleep a priority. It is suggested that the average adult get at least six hours of sleep each night. However, many need more than this. Children require much more. It may take some trial and error for you to determine how much sleep you need. However, once you know, it may be wise to give yourself a bedtime which allows for you to get plenty of sleep.

Your mental health should always be a priority. Start making the changes you need to promote your mental health today.
