Don't Cheat on Your Body
By Donna Stark
The relationship you have with your body is the same you would have with your spouse. You have to treat it with kindness. You have to make it a priority. You have to work at it every day. But the most important thing to remember is that you can't cheat if you expect it to work. Now, we all know what cheating on your spouse means, but what exactly does it mean to cheat on your body? Well, did you skip your workout this morning? Did you choose those greasy fries over that side of broccoli? Did you pull an all-nighter to binge-watch that favorite show of yours? That's what cheating on your body looks like and if your relationship with it is at all-important to you, you need to be more intentional with your actions.
A Healthy Relationship With Your Body
If you don't have a healthy relationship with your body, it may be difficult to start one. But just like all good relationships, the fun is in the challenge, right? So how do you feel about that? Are you ready to roll up your sleeves and get to work? If so, check out the following tips.
- Incorporate daily exercise into your lifestyle - There is so much more to exercise than simply hitting the gym each evening. Exercise is anything that keeps your body in motion. It can include some morning stretches in your bedroom, an afternoon bike ride, or an evening walk with your significant other. Of course, you can still make that daily trip to the gym too the key idea here is to just keep your body moving!
- Be mindful about what you eat - It may not be instantaneous, but everything that you eat will affect your body in some way or another, so be mindful! Stick to whole, natural foods and avoid those that are processed or that contain refined sugar as much as possible.
- Watch your posture - Mom knows best! And she knows that the risk of spinal and nerve damage increases if you don't maintain good posture. Plus, you just look better too when you are sitting up straight. So put those feet on the floor, pull your shoulder blades back, and stop slouching! Your spine and health will thank you for it!
- Get your sleep - In addition to putting a smile on your face and filling your energy reserve, getting plenty of rest and quality sleep at night is imperative for your overall health and wellness. Adequate sleep boosts your immune system, reduces the risk of chronic disease, improves your mental function, and supports good cardiovascular health.
Don't Be a Cheater
Nobody, including your actual body, likes a cheater, so take great care to preserve your relationship and start establishing healthy habits. The relationship with your body is the one relationship that you will have until the day you die. So make it good and make it last!
