Finding Better Health With Exercise
By Donna Stark
For many of us, the only time 2020 ever came up in our discussions was when we were talking about hindsight, but now, this number will forever be associated with the year when the world "fell apart." We've seen increases in symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, and illness, and although we know that exercise is key to a healthy lifestyle, the disruption to our normal routines is still keeping many of us from doing it as often as we should. So, what can we do to change that, especially while dealing with everything else that life is throwing at us on a daily basis? Here are some suggestions.
Find the Right Reasons
Why should you exercise? There are too many reasons to count, and yours may differ from your friend's, but let's take a look at a few of the top ones below.
- Improves sleep and relaxation
- Fortifies immune system
- Reduces stress and anxiety
- Stabilizes moods
- Reduces the risk of illness and disease
- Aids in weight loss
Exercise is important for everyone's mental and physical health, but remember, your reason is yours alone and it should be enough to motivate you to work out every day!
Find the Right Time
If you are wondering what the best time of the day to work out is, all you have to do is look at your schedule. Because any time that you can commit to some amount of physical activity is a good time to exercise. It's that simple. Take advantage of those spare minutes throughout the day to get moving, whether it's with those extra 20 minutes before work, those 10 minutes during lunch, or the full hour during your kid's sports practice. There is no wrong time to exercise!
Find the Right Way
Just like there is no wrong time to exercise, there is also no wrong way ... but you do need to find an activity that you enjoy engaging in. Staying committed to your daily exercise will only work if you are motivated to show up and actually do it. So, if you like walking, take a walk. If you prefer something a little more intense, by all means, plan for it! Being able to look forward to and enjoy your workouts is key for continued success.
Find Improved Health and Wellness
Don't let the direction of this year be the deciding factor with how the direction of your overall health and wellness is going to go. Be sure to include at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise into your routine every day to maintain optimal well-being!
