3 Great Ways to Keep the Brain Sharp
By Genevieve Cunningham
The brain is an important part of the body. In fact, it’s likely the most important part! When our brains aren’t healthy, every single aspect of life suffers. Of course, it probably seems as though the brain is the toughest part to actively improve. But luckily, that may not be the case, after all! If you’re interested in keeping your brain sharp for years to come, take a look at these tips to try in your routine today.
Fuel It Properly
The brain has to be fed, and it needs to be fed well. If you give your body, and subsequently your brain, a bunch of junk, you’ll definitely notice a sluggishness or mental fog. The body and brain need plenty of nutrients. Eat a diet that is high in fruits and vegetables, lean meats, legumes and nuts, and healthy fats and oils. These kinds of foods help keep the brain physically healthy, which helps it remain sharp for much longer.
Test and Challenge It
If you stop learning, your brain and memory are going to deteriorate. You have to continually challenge the brain to keep it healthy. Make sure that you’re always learning. Do puzzles and word searches and brain games. Engage in new hobbies on a regular basis. Learn a new language, read books, take things apart, cook and read recipes. The more engaged you keep your brain, the better it is for the overall health of your brain.
Rest It
Just like anything else in your life, your brain needs rest. Make sure that you’re getting plenty of relaxation and plenty of sleep. It can also help to use stress reduction methods regularly, take your days off, and engage in low-stress activities to wind down. Go to bed on time and make sleep a real priority. Don’t push and push and push your brain to new limits if you're not getting enough rest … get some sleep and keep it healthy.
The brain is obviously important. We need to think and remember and problem solve. We need the brain to be healthy to feel like ourselves and to function at our highest level. Use these tips to keep your brain and body healthy and strong, and enjoy quick responses and sharp memory for years to come.
