Which Exercise Plan Is Right for You?
By Genevieve Cunningham
Exercise is supposed to be a part of everyone's life. We need exercise to maintain good health. We need it to keep our weight under control, our muscles strong, and our balance intact. Many people try to exercise but they just can't seem to stick with it. Why? Often it's because they can't find something they truly enjoy. And that makes exercise seem like a chore. If you want to enjoy your workout and keep your exercise routine intact, take a look at how to find the perfect routine for your body and life.
Evaluate Your Schedule
Everyone's schedule is different. Some people may not be able to fit anything more than a simple stretch into a particular day, while someone else can fit an hour or two at the gym. You'll never find the right exercise if you don't evaluate your own schedule to see what works specifically for you. Do you have an hour every morning to spare? Thirty minutes in the afternoon? Find your time slot, and then pick an exercise that works well with that spot in your day.
Listen to Your Body
Your body will tell you everything you need to know. Your job is to pay attention. If an exercise causes true pain, choose something else. If an exercise is challenging but enjoyable, spend a little more time with it. The body is so good at communicating with us -- if only we'll listen. Focus on listening to your body, and honing in on the perfect workout will happen on its own.
Try a Few
Too many people give up after only one or two different workouts. They hate running and so assume they hate all exercise. But this might not be the case at all. Just because you hate running doesn't mean you'll hate yoga or swimming or dance. Try a few different exercises to see where your interests really lie. As you try new things, you'll learn more about yourself, and eventually find the right combination of exercises to get you on track.
It's not easy to find the right workout for yourself. It takes time and patience and plenty of trial and error. But if you stick with it, the results are definitely worth it. Use these tips to hone in on your perfect workout, and enjoy a healthier lifestyle from here on out.
