How to Stick With Your Fitness and Nutrition Goals
By Stephen R. Farris
Have you ever thought about starting a weight loss program, or joining a gym to exercise more? Most of us have. The unfortunate side of losing weight and getting more exercise is that we often times set ourselves up to fail. Most of the time we dive right in and if we don't see immediate results, we give up and go back to the way things were.
It's not easy to start and maintain a weight loss program, or get in time for exercise. There's that little thing called life that gets in the way a lot, along with the stresses associated with it.
When it comes to starting an exercise program of losing weight, the best thing you can do is to sit down and chart it out. Plan ahead. Make some goals, then stick with them. You may want to try a few of these tips as well, but before you start, check in with your primary care physician and/or local chiropractor to ensure you're healthy enough to begin.
Make Your Goals Obtainable
Most of us simply set goals in our minds and hope to achieve them. This method is often met with failure, and that's the last thing you want to do is, fail. Get a journal and write down your diet and fitness goals. Implement the SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound) method. It could actually make it easier to reach your weight loss, and/or fitness goals a little faster, and help you stick to them.
Keep Stress at a Minimum
Keeping stress at a minimum, sounds much harder than actually being able to do. It can be done. During stressful times, try reading a book in a quiet place, or listening to your favorite music genre, or talking with friends and family. In order to achieve your diet and fitness goals, the needs of the mind must also be nourished positively.
Use Smaller Plates
Why does it always seem, the bigger the plate, the more food we put on it to fill it up? I see you there. You know what I'm talking about. No need to blush, we all are guilty. If overloading your plate at meals seems to be a problem, and if it's keeping hampering your weight loss goals, try switching to smaller plates and refrain from going back for seconds.
Think of that last technique as a Jedi mind trick. You're welcome! No, in reality, the main thing is to keep continue your weight loss and/or exercise goals. Just refrain from setting them too high to be achieved.
