Improving Health Should Be Enjoyable

By Tom Herrin

Many people associate good health with a certain amount of misery.  They believe that if they are going to become stronger and healthier, they need to experience some kind of pain and/or discomfort.  This really does not have to be the case.  There are plenty of activities available that are enjoyable as well as great for strengthening the body.  One of those is riding a bicycle.  Most people learned to ride at an early age and enjoyed it thoroughly.  Somehow with the passage of time and the journey into adulthood, they lost that simple connection to one of the joys of their childhood.  Going back to that time is not that hard and can bring about really beneficial results.

Riding a Bicycle Can Be Easy on the Joints

As people get older, they usually learn that anything that is less stressful on the joints can be good.  This is the general definition of low impact.  Riding a bicycle helps to avoid the pounding that happens with so many other activities, such as jogging or other heavy activities.  Protecting the joints means better ability to move without pain and stiffness.  Most people realize that is vitally important to good health.

It Can Build Strong Bones and Muscles

Pedaling a bicycle can do a great job of improving lower body muscles.  The legs get a steady workout that help to provide durability.  The effort used to pedal can also increase bone density.  This is critical to older people as they become more vulnerable to bone-related problems and injuries.  Improved muscles and bones also improves the ability to manage balance and coordination.  This makes life’s daily activities more attainable with less difficulties.

It Can Strengthen The Heart

Most people are concerned with finding ways to increase the ability of the heart to perform well.  They realize it is a key to overall health.  When people ride a bike, they can experience a good aerobic exercise that is not so difficult or overwhelming.  For many, thoughts of heavy perspiration and extreme exhaustion come to mind when they think about anything that is considered to be aerobic.  That does not have to be the case.  People can enjoy this kind of exercise without those seemingly miserable experiences.  If you want to improve your health, try riding a bicycle.  It can be really pleasant and enjoyable.  That is the way it should be.
