Anxious at Work? Here's How to Keep Calm

By Sara Butler

Do you wake up in the morning when your alarm goes off and automatically think about all you need to get done at work that day? If so, you're not alone. A lot of people tend to stress out and feel anxious about work. Work is just stressful; you can't help it. But you can help yourself. It's important for you to stay on top of your anxious feelings surrounding work and take control. There are a few simple habits you can participate in each day to help you feel as if you're in charge working your job and stop feeling like your job is working you.

Chill Out With the Coffee

Coffee is considered the nectar of the Gods by many busy workers who need a pick-me-up to face the day ahead, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. That's because coffee triggers the release of cortisol, the stress hormone. That, combined with coffee's dehydrating properties, can leave you ultimately feeling sluggish and blah.

So, instead of reaching for coffee during your afternoon slump, try a cup of herbal tea or even a cold glass of water to help you stay in the game. Doing so can help you feel better and help reduce feelings of anxiety too.

Color

Adult coloring books have become incredibly popular because they've been found to have some real therapeutic value. The purpose of these detailed designs is to help you focus and relax at the same time. Plus, it always helps to take a break from staring at your computer screen.

Get an adult coloring book and make sure to choose something that challenges your artistic side a bit. Take it with you everywhere you go and whip it out when you feel as if you need to add a little relaxation to your day.

Break Out the Tunes

Music can really help to calm you. Your brain tends to go at a million miles an hour when you're working, but putting on some calming music can help to take the pressure off and keep you from feeling overwhelmed. This isn't the time to drop the beat but to bust out some tunes that work to help calm your anxiety. Think of opera or meditation music. And don't forget to take a few deep breaths as you listen, too.

Don't let work make you stressed and anxious. Fight back by using these tips!
