Is Your Body Beach Ready?

By Genevieve Cunningham

Summer brings with it a ton of fun activities. Cookouts and camping trips and days at the beach are par for the course. But with these fun activities come some new added stress. Specifically, we begin to worry about how good we look in our summer clothes. Tank tops, short shorts, and … swimsuits. With summer here, you might be thinking that it’s too late to do anything about that summer beach body, but luckily, you’d be wrong! If your summer body isn’t quite ready, take a look at these tips for getting it ready in a pinch.

Count Your Calories

The best way to lose weight is to count your calories. You should be burning more calories than you’re taking in. If you’re not, you need to eat less and move more. Creating this caloric deficit is the only way to shed pounds. Losing weight should be done slowly, so don’t think that 50 pounds will fall off in a month. But most people are surprised by how much better they feel after a simple five or 10 pounds is gone for good.

Drink More Water

At first, this might make you feel even bigger, but give it time. Water will keep you feeling full, which will prevent you from overeating. Water also serves to clear the skin, which is a nice bonus since so much skin is exposed during summer. Start by drinking just two or so more cups a day, and slowly increase the amount until you’re drinking the recommended eight glasses a day.

Use Weights

What makes a body look good in a swimsuit? It’s the muscle and definition. Since you’ll already be eating at a caloric deficit (see tip #1), start lifting weights to sculpt muscle as the fat falls away. It will take time, but with some persistence, it will work. Start with weights that are challenging, but relatively small. As you get comfortable with that weight, add more so that your body is continually challenged.

Even if your body isn’t perfect, don’t let that stop you from enjoying the fun of summer. Just use these tips to begin working on a body to be proud of. With some hard work and a little luck, you’ll be flaunting a new body, and more importantly more confidence, by the summer’s end.
