Keep Your Blood Pressure Good Without Medication

By Tom Herrin

Many people today are more aware of some of the things that medication can do to their bodies.  It can certainly serve some good purposes, at times, but it may tend to be hard on the body at others.  With this in mind, many people make every effort to avoid taking medication if at all possible.  In many cases, it is something that can be one with a little planning and effort.  It may require a bit of a change in lifestyle, but it is well worth the effort.  Managing blood pressure is one of those things that many may be able to do if they will make the decision to commit to their goals.

Lose Some Weight

When many people are told that they should lose weight, the thought may make them feel that it is impossible.  For sure, it can be a tremendous challenge.  The real issue for so many is that they dislike the notion of making severe changes.  On the bright side, a few alterations in eating habits may be enough to start them on the right path.  Even cutting a few calories each day can add up faster than they may realize.  Mathematically speaking, cutting 500 calories per day can add up to a pound per week.  While that may be a bit lofty, even small cuts may do a lot.  Before long, these cuts may mean better blood pressure.

Cut Back on Salt

One of the big problems for many is sodium.  It is mostly found in salt.  Choosing to use less salt can be a start in the right direction.  Even for those who rely on fast foods, it is possible to request no salt on their foods.  This may lead to a noticeable difference in a short period of time.  Once they become accustomed to using less salt, it can be pretty easy.

Check Your Own Often

If you are serious about managing your blood pressure, it helps to know just what it is.  Home monitors are pretty affordable and easy to use.  I try to check mine on a regular basis.  It helps me to modify and adjust.  Anytime my blood pressure is not where I feel it should be, I will make some kind or a small change, and it usually improves within days.  As a result, I have never had to take any kind of medication or blood pressure.  For me, it seems to be a matter of so far, so good.
