Why Letting It Go Is Good for Your Health

By Brandi Goodman

Most of us have heard the song by now. The Frozen soundtrack song is not wrong. We all need to "Let It Go" in order to experience our best well-being and mental health. Letting it go is far more beneficial for your health than you may realize.

Lowering Your Stress Levels

Holding onto anger, hatred, sadness, and other negative emotions can really raise your stress levels. You're more likely to feel stressed out and overwhelmed when you aren't letting things go and are in your head all the time. It may be difficult to move on from those emotions when you're in the moment, but doing so can help you lower your stress levels and feel much better overall.

Find some ways to help yourself with this process so it's easier to accomplish. Write down negative thoughts and feelings and burn the pages. Write a letter expressing your stresses and burn that as well, or at least rip it to shreds. Practice some meditation techniques. Do what you need to help rid yourself of the negativity.

Decreasing Your Blood Pressure

High stress levels can actually raise your blood pressure. Instead of holding onto anger and thoughts that eat away at you, you need to learn to let go of them so you can decrease your blood pressure and improve your health in the process. A spike in blood pressure may not do much once, but over time it can really wreak havoc on your heart and other organs. Don't let your blood pressure remain elevated if you want to keep yourself healthy.

Finding Time for Things You Love

One aspect of letting go is letting go of the expectations of others and all the to-do list items you think you need to accomplish. Are any of those things making you happy? You need to let go of what others want, let go of their opinions, and focus on finding time for the things you love. Do what makes you happy and what helps you thrive. Your physical and mental well-being will be all the better for it.

Letting it go is so good for you, there's now even a National Let It Go Day in June. Whether you missed the occasion or not, every day should follow the same mantra. Let it all go when you can and forget about your troubles whenever possible. "Hakuna Matata" is another great way to say it. Take these Disney movies' advice and seek a stress-free life.
