Birds of a Feather Get Healthier Together
By Tom Herrin
Becoming more in tune with the world in which we live can enhance our feelings about ourselves. There is an abundant amount of beauty around us. The spring allows us to see it at its best. The colors, the smells, the sounds all create that sense that things are new and alive. In order to enjoy the best health possible, we need to embrace all of it. It is a great time to become involved in something that can be rewarding as well as boost our overall health. Believe it or not, bird watching can be the thing to fit that bill.
It Can Increase Your Mental Awareness
One of the best ways to cultivate early thinking among children is to have plenty of colors. The same thing can apply to adults, regardless of the age. Bird watching requires us to gain new knowledge by studying, develop a keener ability to distinguish birds in their different surroundings, and improve our reaction time by having to be more alert as we look for that sudden chance to catch a glimpse of something rare. This increase in mental processing has been shown to help avoid dementia.
It Can Help Us Learn More Patience And Appreciation
A lot of times we fail to have the best perspective about our environment. We tend to miss quite a few things. Once we take the time to actually begin to really see what is there, we see the world in a different light. This sense of appreciation tends to increase personal satisfaction and reduce depression. Waiting and watching for that right situation as a bird watcher can help us to value patience as an important quality.
It Can Help Us Get Exercise By Losing Ourselves
For many of us, exercise is a chore we try to avoid. In bird watching, you have to move around to look for things in their natural settings. There is walking involved, but you tend to become so occupied with looking that you may forget you are walking around at all. The time passes pleasantly while you gain some cardiovascular benefits. You are able to combine fun and exercise in a pleasurable way. It works pretty well. If you are into photography, you can easily add that in. You are certain to find others with the same interests, and it becomes a great way to socialize. The hobby becomes a total package. It really can make you healthier.
