4 Exercise Options to Try During 'Move More' Month

April is Move More Month. The spring season is a great time to start thinking about ways you can get more movement into your day and help combat the sedentary lifestyle you may have been leading throughout the winter months. Try some exercise alternatives so you can move more throughout your day in fun ways that won't make you feel like it's such a chore.

Dance While Cleaning

Speaking of chores -- that's exactly what you should do to move more this month. Get your spring cleaning started and work up a sweat as you tackle all your work around the house. However, you should really do more than just clean. Turn on some energetic tunes and dance around while you get the job done. It will make it more fun and burn more calories in the process.

Always Take the Stairs

Escalators and elevators may get you to your destination faster, but they don't do anything for your well-being. Take the stairs no matter where it is you're going and you'll be adding plenty of exercise into your day. Your lower body strength and stamina will greatly benefit from the change in activity.

Be a Kid

If you have a kid, now's a great time to get outside with them. Even without one, you can still think back to your own childhood and remember all the fun activities you did. Reminisce on those moments and be a kid again -- swinging, jumping, skipping, and using a local playground to up your fitness routine. Don't forget to get out the chalk and draw a hopscotch board. Pull out a jump rope. Try a hula hoop. The games and toys from childhood can be a blast to break up the monotony of adult exercise.

Use Your Couch

The average American watches four hours of streaming services or television programming in a single day. Sitting that entire time is extremely detrimental to your health. You can still enjoy the shows you love. Just be sure to use your couch in the process to exercise while you're watching. Put your hands behind your back onto the sofa and do some tricep dips. Place your feet on cushions and hands on the ground for some hardcore push-ups. 

Move More Month encourages you to get up and get moving. Don't stop in April, though. Keep moving every month thereafter so you can always fit fitness into your life and burn those calories. Movement is necessary to your well-being!
