Acting A Little Childish Can Be Good In Fall
By Tom Herrin
It is easy to comment that someone else is acting like a child and should consider changing their behavior. While this may be a bad thing for some, when the fall comes around, doing many of the things children do is not all bad. It can provide an opportunity for people to become more active and find some different ways to enjoy themselves. Being too serious all of the time can wear anyone out. Fall can be a good time to take a break from serious things and loosen up. The results may be better health and a greater appreciation for life in general.
Get A Little Physical
With the cooler temperatures, fall can be a time when people can get outdoors without suffering from problems with extreme heat. Moving around and being active can be pleasant as well as healthy. Involving the entire family in outdoor games can increase bonds and teach skills. Games such as touch football, croquet, backyard volleyball, and countless others can provide good exercise. When they are played on a casual basis, people can pace themselves so that they do not have to be heavily exerted.
Choose Some Plain Fun
There are quite a few activities available in the fall that are particular to that time of year. Pumpkin patches and corn mazes can be found and are good family activities. Whether it is running around trying to find their way out of a maze or looking around picking up and putting down pumpkins, they can be fun activities that can involve the whole family. More exercise can be had than is often realized as people can burn a few hundred calories in just an hour or so.
Check Out A Farmers Market
Many of us think of the fall as the time of harvest, because it is. When we were children in school, we studied the early settlers in this country and learned about the first Thanksgiving. There are plenty of foods available that are particular to this time of year. Selecting some good fresh foods and trying some new recipes can enhance our diets, adding nutrients and variety. It doesn’t really hurt to enjoy life like a child, it may just make us healthier and strengthen our families. It is well worth trying.
