Make Your Menu Peachy for Better Health

By Tom Herrin

Finding those right foods to fill a healthy menu is sometimes a challenge. There is a good variety of foods available, but knowing which foods to buy to create the best possible meals for good health is not always easy. Different people have different needs depending on their habits and other foods they include. Sometimes simply adding a food that a person hadn't included in their diet can make it more successful. Adding a few peaches may curb hunger while providing the finishing touches that a healthy diet needs.

They May Be Good for Weight Control

Many times, when people are hungrythey are actually in need of water. Trying to satisfy that need can cause someone to end up eating far more food than they need as they try to satisfy the thirst they don’t recognize. Peaches have a high water content, as most people know. They are pretty low calorie as well. An average size peach may contain only 68 calories. That makes it just the right thing for a snack, dessert, or part of a breakfast.

They Have Plenty of Nutrients

Like most fruits, peaches are packed with vitamins. They contain considerable amounts of Vitamins A and C, but they also contain Vitamins E, K, and B-6 plus thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and pantothenic acid. They are also fairly loaded with minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, copper, manganese, iron, and calcium. They are a good source of antioxidants which are known to help fight disease, including some cancers. They are useful for helping to reduce or fight inflammation.

They Are Fiber Rich

Fiber serves a lot of beneficial purposes in a diet. It can help people feel fuller. Its best-known job is helping to move food along through the digestive system. This can help prevent constipation and deter some other diseases that affect the colon. It also can help to reduce cholesterol. This can help prevent constipation and deter some other diseases that affect the colon. You may find eating them a great way to add some good flavor to a breakfast. I like them with cottage cheese or cream. They are pretty good in cereals, making them a really sweet treat. Carry one or two for a quick, tasty snack for between meals. Be a little creative and see what you can come up with. You are sure to find some really special ways to include them in your diet.
