Everyone Can Have Better Health With a Vacation

By Tom Herrin

There are plenty of ways to attempt to improve health.  Exercise and eating right are always a good combination.  Too often, people fall short of one of the easy ways to improve health for the entire family.  Vacations are something that too many people put off, or save for, with the intent of using it later.  The biggest problem is that later never seems to arrive for many. Vacations can serve a great purpose for people, but it is important that they fully embrace the idea, plan for it, and do it.  For those who put them off, it is another one of those things that they will never be able to make up or recapture.

They Can Be Good for the Heart

Protecting the heart is a pretty significant thing to do.  In this modern world with so many conveniences, many people fail to get nearly enough exercise. The daily routine does very little for ensuring that people get regular activity.  A vacation may provide a good change of pace and a little variety for most. In some long-term studies, it has been found that people who took regular vacations were considerably less likely to die of a heart attack, and those who seldom took vacations developed heart problems more consistently.

They May Help Mental Health

Maintaining sound mental health is important.  Indications are that those who take vacations may experience less depression and be better able to deal with their everyday problems.  Their activity and sleep cycles may improve. A vacation seems to have a cleansing effect on the mind. It may help make them far more productive as well as keep the mind functioning at a better level.  This is a growing concern for many today.

They May Enhance Relationships

Too many of us take our relationships for granted.  We assume everyone in the family has the same needs as we do "just because."  It is easy to lose touch with each other and our individual needs. That special time we spend with family members while on vacation may create an opportunity for conversations we are never able to have at home.  Finding ourselves in a different setting can help all of us to be more open and relaxed. I have managed to solve a lot of personal problems while on vacation without having it on the agenda at all.
