Are You the Grab and Go Type?

By Tom Herrin

So many people are caught up in the proverbial rat race that they seldom take the time to stop and smell the roses.  They also fail to stop and take time to eat right. The term "fast food" was once a novelty. Today that has become so common that the real exception is a good sit-down meal.  Whether it is at a restaurant or at home, taking the time to actually enjoy a meal is becoming a lost art for many. It seems that many meals are rushed, but breakfast may take the greatest beating.  There are packaged foods that can temporarily ease the hunger, but they may not really fill the need. Meals should not always simply be habit but a vital part of the everyday program that is designed with a purpose.  Breakfast is no exception.

It Can Charge the Body for Work

Whether people are going to a job or school, it is critical to start the day with something useful.  A well designed breakfast can meet the needs of the individual. Consuming a meal packed with nutrients and the right kind of energy supply may be the difference between high performance and running out of steam.  With the abundance of packaged foods and drinks designed for those who use them, it is no wonder that so many become tired and worn out early in the day. Individual needs are more important to meet. Real juices may be able to provide the kind of start that may stay with a person.

It Can Provide Support for the Cardiovascular System

Everyone is different in regard to their physical body.  Eating a breakfast containing omega-3’s and some of the better fats can have quite an impact on health.  Foods with magnesium and potassium can help to prevent stroke and heart attack. Eating plenty of good fibers can also be a great way to start the day.  They not only help to move food through the system but also help to keep people feeling fuller. The soluble fibers have a great track record for being able to help lower cholesterol.  Eating them on a daily basis can be a good way to be certain that the right kind of foundation is there from the start.

It May Strengthen Bones

Poor nutrition tends to lead to weaker bones.  Eating a breakfast that contains the key components for strong bones can help to prevent other problems.  Most people are aware of the need for calcium but often fail to include it in their diet. Some even choose foods that may deplete the calcium supply.  I prefer to eat some kind of cereal for breakfast. It is a little lighter and more easily digestible for me. I always have milk in my cereal, including oatmeal.  Breakfast is important, but most important is to make it something to fit your individual needs.
