Try Camping for Better Health

By Tom Herrin

When a lot of people try to think of some way to boost their health a little, they often go for the usual.  Exercise classes, jogging trails, or some kind of packaged deal may be the first things that come to mind.  There is much more out there to get excited about.  It may be that things they did long ago can be revisited with some pretty good success.  They just didn't think of it as something for health before, it was more like something for fun.  The reality is that when we have fun, it may well lead to some healthy practices.  Most people camped in some form or fashion as a child.  Doing this as an adult can still build good memories while adding to good health.

It May Help Improve Sleep

So many people seem to have sleep problems that it is difficult to determine how many there are.  Sleeping outdoors is a different animal.  People are so accustomed to spending most of their time in a man-made environment that they don't know what it is like to be out in nature.  According to a University of Colorado study, when people sleep outside, they tend to set themselves to a similar schedule as the sun.  This is a great way to get better rest.  Getting up around the time the sun rises and going to bed not long after it sets can help to achieve better balance in the body.  It can be an amazing experience.

It Can Increase Levels of Vitamin D

Since so many people spend large amounts of time indoors, they often fail to get enough vitamins provided by the sun.  Vitamin D is critical for a healthy body.  Spending time outdoors is a great way to get more of it.  It has been found to help prevent some cancers, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and even multiple sclerosis.  It doesn't take very long until people feel the difference.  It may seem unexplainable, but it can be a real shot in the arm.

It Can Help Build Families

Our family all loved to go camping.  It was a time in which we could get away from all of our electronics and modern conveniences.  Working together to do something outdoors can be wonderful.  We always took some good walks and saw some sights that we might otherwise overlook.  Getting in touch with nature may be one of the best ways you can find to also get in touch with yourself and your family.
