Do You Check Your Water Often?

By Tom Herrin

When it comes to cars and other motorized vehicles, it is pretty important to keep an eye on all of the fluids.  If they get low, most people know what kinds of risks they face.  Damage to parts, failure in things that need to work smoothly, and the potential of breaking down in some place that is pretty undesirable, are all potential problems.  For the human body, some of those same general kinds of problems exist.  One of the most critical is water.  If people fail to keep an adequate amount of water going through their system, the results could be serious.  Water is a major requirement for the body and can do lots of good things.

It Can Help People to Reach Their Physical Potential

Maintaining the right amount of water can make a world of difference in the way the body can work.  Through experience and study, it has been found just how water affects performance.  It seems that as little as 2 percent loss of water from the body can have an impact.  Many times, athletes may lose as much as 10 percent of their water weight by perspiring.  When this happens, body temperature may be hard to regulate and people may become ill.  It is best to schedule regular water breaks to see that it is properly replenished.

It May Have an Effect on Headaches

While it may not be so for all of them, some headaches are believed to have a relationship to loss of water.  In these cases, drinking plenty of water can be the difference in feeling well and feeling bad.  It is another reason to make every effort to take in water throughout the day, beginning in the morning and continuing until night.  Extra effort should be made during times of excessive water loss.

There Can Be Great Secondary Benefits

Years ago, the Stillman Water Diet was getting a lot of publicity.  Dr. Stillman appeared on all kinds of talk shows and had quite a following.  While his may have been a little different, it was based on the fact that we all get hungry when we fail to drink enough water.  Drinking plenty can help.  When I am trying to lose weight, I try to make certain to drink extra amounts of water before I eat and along with my meals.  I also try to be sure to drink at least a full glass of water before I go to bed and as soon as I get up in the morning.  It may help with blood flow as well as satisfy hunger.
