Add a Little Leafy Green For a Healthier Diet
By Tom Herrin
With all of the things that may be added to a diet for better health, there is no reason to become stagnant in a menu. It is pretty well known that fresh vegetables are a good addition to any diet. If people want to go another step, they can add leafy greens. Many people are aware that they have plenty of benefits in a diet, but many times, they simply don't think of adding them in on a regular basis. This may be due to the fact that they simply have not cultivated a taste for them. Serving them to a family early, and regularly, can go a long way to improve the benefits of those meals.
They May Improve Digestion
A lot of people have some kind of trouble with their digestion. It may be due to poor eating habits or some other thing. Eating more leafy greens may be an easy way to make digestion better. Some of the minerals such as potassium and magnesium may help to treat some common issues. Their vitamin content may restore the energy that may have been drained by those problems.
They May Help Manage Cholesterol
In this busy lifestyle that so many people have today, they are often almost dependent on fast foods. These foods tend to have higher amounts of bad fats and cholesterol. Having a diet that consists of leafy greens is much healthier. Many of the nutrients in this can help to minimize or eliminate the plaque that can be such a problem. Adding these to a diet can provide a good filler without the heavy foods that are so often included.
They May Help With Weight Management
Many of us are in need of help trying to keep our weight down. It can be a constant struggle. Making good choices is always one of the key elements to success. If we can develop a taste for these leafy green vegetables, we will be well ahead in our meal selection. They can be highly nutritious. Many of them have quite a bit of iron. Eating them rather than some meats to maintain a proper amount of iron can help to prevent anemia without taking in extra fats. When we have a sufficient amount of these in our diets, we may feel more energetic. Since they are bulky, they tend to be more filling as well. Introducing our children to them early may help them to form some better eating habits from day one.
