Run an Extra Mile for the Brain
By Tom Herrin
What would most people do to help boost their mental ability? For some it is to study more. For others, it is to develop a better routine of sleep and diet. For still others, it may be to get in a few more miles. How can this last one help the brain? It can do more than many may believe. There is a definite connection between physical activity and mental function. As a matter of fact, some people are able to train neurological functions by doing various kinds of activities.
Exercise May Reduce Stress
There are many things that can do harm to the brain. When they disrupt the brain's efficiency, it can fail in functioning as it should. One that can have a great impact is stress. When people suffer from stress, it can end up causing them to be physically ill along with lots of other things. Exercise is known to help to manage stress. Exercise can help to release chemicals that may create happier feelings and a better overall outlook. This also is known to increase the process of processing information.
Physical Activity May Increase Oxygen Supply
One of the best ways for anything to grow or increase is to supply more oxygen. This allows it to improve its level of development. When more oxygen is available to the brain, it will be better able to do what it is designed to do. This may mean greater ability to perform mental functions, particularly in areas dealing with rational thinking and other kinds of key performance duties of the brain.
That Little Extra Can Always Help
No matter what we do, it seems that any time we do just a little bit more, we win. It may be in work, study, or exercising for better brain performance. I always feel better when I exercise. It also seems as if I am able to think clearer. While it could be my imagination, I feel that it really does make a difference. It can be a win-win situation for any of us. We can all use the exercise, and we can definitely benefit from doing all we can to maintain and improve our minds. If nothing else, it certainly makes me feel like I am doing something positive. Improving mind and body at the same time counts.
