Let Togetherness Improve Health
By Tom Herrin
In all likelihood, you've heard the adage that when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. It isn't really all that much of a grand statement, but it speaks to the resilience of individuals. At the present time, the world is going through some extremely difficult times. As a result, many are limited to spending much time indoors. It is a pretty good challenge and may test lots of relationships. On the other hand, it may be a great opportunity for them to strengthen those same relationships while improving health at the same time.
Make Minutes Count
For those who may not see much of other family members, spending time together may seem like a bit of culture shock. Quality time can be really productive. Most people can benefit from increased time in more ways than they may realize. How many remember a time in which they played board games or worked puzzles? They were some fun times and may have generated some good memories. This is a time in which it could be productive to make that time useful. Sitting down with others in the same household and playing a game or doing a puzzle may open some communication for all. Surely many people no longer have much of a schedule and may have time to spare.
Get a Little Exercise
While people are staying together, they may as well do some exercise. As a matter of fact, that is one of the problems people are encouraged to deal with anytime they are shut in somehow. In the present situations, people should have all the incentives in the world to maintain better health. A little group exercise on a daily basis is something that lots of people likely have time for, if they will take advantage of it. Taking turns among various family members may get them all involved and motivated about the program.
Surprise Yourself
We have always enjoyed spending time as a family at meals. When we all sit down together, and remain there until everyone is finished, we learn more about one another. We often learn to be better listeners, and that is a key to improving relations anytime. The current situation has given us an opportunity to do more of this. We hope to make the most of it. It is worth giving a try. Listening to each other, sharing ideas without judging, and exercising together may be the silver lining in all of this.
