Don't Let the Flu in Your Home: 5 Tips to Prevent It
By Virginia Laird
The flu virus is an unwelcomed guest that arrives in far too many homes this time of year. While there is little that can be done to prevent it from visiting your home, there are a few precautions that can be taken to decrease the chances of hosting this uninvited visitor. One of the most controversial is getting the flu vaccine. Whether it is for you or not, there are still a few other healthy hygiene habits to add to your daily routine to help prevent the spread of germs, including:
- Don’t skip meals
- Get enough rest
- Stay hydrated
- Wash your hands often
- Invest is good antibacterial cleaning supplies
Don’t Skip Meals
Skipping meals can prevent the systems of the body from functioning correctly. Like a car needs gasoline, the body needs nutrients to operate. Many think skipping a meal is a great way to control calorie consumption: Research suggests otherwise.
Get Enough Rest
Getting plenty of sleep plays a huge role is staying healthy. Sleep allows the systems of the body to regain the ability to function at their best. On the flip side, a lack of sleep can hamper the body’s ability to function.
Stay Hydrated
Dehydration can cause massive problems for the body, including the immune system’s ability to function properly. During flu season, we rely on this system to fight off the germs that we come in contact with.
Wash Your Hands Often
Washing your hands often is another great way to help decrease your chances of getting the flu. It is important to remember to wash more than just after having been to the restroom. Washing the hands after being in large crowds, public places, and even just touching the grocery cart at your local supermarket, can help prevent the spread of germs.
Invest in Good Antibacterial Cleaning Supplies
Make sure to keep extra antibacterial cleaning supplies around the house. During flu season, you will want to make sure to clean the surfaces of your home often, as well as doorknobs, pillows, bathrooms and any other high trafficked areas. Some may disinfect the couches and other living room furniture as well.
Start making healthy hygiene habits a routine part of your day to help prevent the chances of your family coming down with the flu.
