It's OK to Revamp Your Resolutions
By Donna Stark
Most of us have heard the sayings, "Take a leap of faith," and "Dive in head first," and there are times throughout our lives when you just need to go ahead and take those messages to heart. But there are also times when baby steps and a slower entry into the water are what's best for the moment. New Year's resolutions can go either way. Sometimes, a dramatic change is needed to change the course of your life, but if it's too big and too quick, then those baby steps may seem more appropriate. If the bang that you started the year off with has turned into a mere pop by now, you may need to slow down and scale back your resolutions in order to find the success you were hoping for.
Baby Steps for a Better You
The new year is a great starting point for change, but it's not the only starting point you have to work with. If you need to reevaluate the commitments you made and make some changes, go ahead and do it! And if you totally need to change the direction and start over from scratch, today is your day to do so. Here are some healthy habits that you can start at any time for your commitment to good health.
- Cut your portion size at meals - Forget the drastic diet, just watch how much you eat. By cutting the portion size of your meals, you can reduce the intake of fat and calories significantly and maintain a healthier weight.
- Add exercise - Is that fitness routine you signed up for too much? You don't need to spend hours at the gym each night to stay physically fit and healthy. All you need is 30 minutes of challenging exercise each day.
- Prioritize sleep - You're committed to your career, family, friends, and charity work, but have you committed yourself to get the proper amount of rest? Inadequate sleep can lead to poor work performance and serious health issues.
- Reevaluate what's holding you back - You don't need big issues to hold you back ... sometimes it's the little things. Do you carry a lot of self-doubt around? Are your days filled with stress? By figuring out what is disrupting your days, you will be able to find a way to deal with them.
- Try something new - Maybe you wanted to try some new hobby that was totally out of your element and you bombed with it. No worries! Keep that adventurous spirit alive by trying something new every day, but on a smaller scale. Think of new recipes, new routes to work, or new date ideas for you and your significant other.
Healthy Habits for the New Year
Starting small and staying focused on the moment is a great way to find the success that you are looking for with your new resolutions this year. It's never too late to start and it's perfectly OK to revamp your goals. Just stay positive and make this year great!
