Everyone Can Be a Runner, Including You!
By Donna Stark
Whether you are just starting out with little to no experience or are getting back to it after a seriously long break, you may find yourself questioning why you have chosen this sport. After all, running is for those die-hard athletes, right? Well, yes ... and no! You see, everyone can be a runner. The trick is to find some enjoyment with doing so, because if you like what you do, the motivation to keep at it will stick around. So stop questioning your choice. Just take a look at the following tips that will help you find some fun while on your run.
Slow Down
Everyone dreams of crossing the finish line first, but if you are just beginning, it's important to realize that there is no competition in this race. It's just you and your goals, so don't jump the gun by running as fast as you can the first day out. The key idea here is that you are in this race for the long haul and you will want to build your endurance up at a pace your body can handle.
Take Walk Breaks
Running can certainly be intimidating, especially if you are new to the sport, so allow yourself some grace and include some walking intervals throughout your run. Walking won't hurt your end goals in the beginning, it's gentler on your body, and it can provide that much-needed mental break that will get you to your final destination.
Ask a Friend
Running can certainly be a very lonely way to exercise, but there is plenty of road to share so ask a friend to join you! As long as you both are on the same page in regards to pace and intensity, it can be a fun distraction and a great way to catch up while burning calories.
Add Some Tunes
Music has an incredible way of distracting us from pain and fatigue, improving our mood, and increasing our effort without us even realizing it is happening. So start creating your playlist today! But take your time choosing the right music though. And by right, I mean to make sure you select those tunes that will keep you moving!.
Discover New Routes
You don't eat the same thing from day to day nor do you wear the same outfit over and over again, so treat your runs just like everything else in your life. Mix it up! Avoid the boredom that comes from running on the same route by choosing new paths that spark your interest.
Finding the Fun in Your Run
Don't be intimidated by those sneakers next to your front door. Everyone can be a runner, and that includes you! So lace up and hit the road. The fun is just about to begin!
